  • Formed in Nottingham in 1982 on the wave of experimental music that emerged out of post punk, OYC are now in their 4th incarnation based around core members Andrew Hulme and Roger Horberry.

OYC have forged their own path, moving away from their early industrial and electronic influences to incorporate the then-unfashionable ‘ambient’ music into their own sound. Largely ignored in the UK, they’ve consistently found audiences in the US and Europe more receptive.

Between 2018 and 2020 OYC played more gigs around Europe than in the previous 30 years. Their shows explores a sonic territory area OYC have christened “dirty ambient” – multi layered, hyper textural and distinctly gritty.

  • OYC have released a bewildering number of wilfully obscure ambient-influenced albums that together have earned them literally hundreds of pounds.

Key releases include Scene in Mirage (1984), Into Dark Water (1987) and Peyote (1989), Equator (1994), The Euphoria of Disobedience (2006), OYC25 (2009), Tropic (2017), Sleepwalker (2019) and four volumes of A Tension of Opposites (2021-2023). There are also several reissues, 12”s and retrospectives, including Sunchemical (1996), Insect Talk (2019), Artifacts (2021) and OYC40 (2023).
